The Adeptus Mechanicus was an organisation and religion in a possible far future. It provided technical, mechanical, and engineering expertise to the Imperium of Man . Its religion focused on a Machine God and associated Machine Spirits.
The Mechanicus had sovereignty over several worlds in the Imperium such as the Forge World of Reolaz IV. It also possessed its own military forces and fleets. As a religious group, it also had plenty of factions with varying views. The priesthood included techpriests, who typically wore red robes and had a variety of cybernetic modifications. The Cult Mechanicus, but not the Adeptus Mechanicus, also included Techmarines, Space Marines charged with maintaining the equipment of this elite force.
At some point, the Mechanicus had offered a bounty for any news on 3rd Millennium vessels.
When the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) was duplicated in such a way that it was impossible to tell which was the original, one ship and crew was pulled into the 41st Millennium. The Blood Ravens strike cruiser Bibliothèque took the Enterprise to Reolaz IV, planning to transfer the ship to the orbital forge. However, a faction led by Magos Yar Daystrom saw the 3rd Millennium vessel as an affront to the Machine God and attacked it. Despite the opposition of another Mechanicus warship, the Blood Ravens cruiser, and the Space Wolf strike cruiser Firemane's Fang, Daystrom's vessel fired a shot that triggered a warp core breach on the Enterprise. Daystrom and her crew were killed when the ships protecting the Enterprise fired upon her ship and destroyed it.
Another Mechancius official encountered by the surviving Starfleet crew was C-Slow, a techpriest and an Inquisitor of the Ordo Malleus. He formed part of a team that would board the derelict USS Miranda and Enterprise (NX-01). C-Slow, Blood Ravens Techmarines, and Space Wolf Iron Priests proved vital in restoring the old ships to operation status. (38589 Years Difference)
