Alan Taylor was a half-human/half-Bajoran science officer who served in Starfleet in the late 24th century. His assignments included the starships USS Paragon and USS Hunter.

Early life[]

Alan Jonathan "AJ" Taylor was born in Christopher's Landing, Titan in the year 2347. His mother, Tula Sajis, was Titan's colonial governor and his father was Captain Garret Taylor of the USS Stewart. Due to his parent's careers, he rarely saw them, and was mainly raised by his father's best friend, former Federation Ambassador Jonathan Garrick.

A de facto member of the Garrick household, AJ developed a close bond with Jonathan's sons, especially the youngest, Robert. The two would often sneak out of the house to play Parisis squares or go rock-climbing in the nearby mountains. Taylor would later reflect that he enjoyed the activities because his mother would not have approved.

Starfleet[]

Alan entered Starfleet Academy in 2364, majoring in sciences. While at the Academy, he became friends with Cadet Tom Decker and became part of Nova Squadron. Both Taylor and Decker left Nova Squad when Nick Locarno proposed to perform the Kolvoord Starburst during their flight trials.

AJ graduated in 2368 and began post-graduate studies at the Advanced Sciences College. In 2369, he was assigned to the USS Robert T. April as a junior science officer.

He transferred to the USS Paragon in 2372. While serving aboard the Paragon, AJ helped save the lives of Commander Timothy Garrick's children during an incident with the Venturi and the Breen.

Shortly thereafter, he accepted an assignment on the USS Hunter. After the death of the Hunter's science officer during the battle with The Entity, Taylor was promoted to Lieutenant junior grade and became the ship's chief science officer.

Alternate continuities[]

In the Pendragon timeline, Alan Taylor served aboard the Paragon throughout the Federation Civil War, and survived the ship's destruction during Operation Return.

In the 2385, he held the rank of Lieutenant Commander and was part of a research team working with ancient Tkon and Iconian technology. (Star Trek: Pendragon)

Trivia[]

  • According to his personnel file, Taylor had a photographic memory and was able to block some telepathic probes by mentally reciting technobabble.
  • He brought a Golden Retriever named Dusty with him aboard the Hunter. He was also a self-professed chocoholic.

Background notes[]

  • Alan Taylor was a character played by Tim Morgan on the USS Hunter sim in 1997 and 1998. Though Taylor's online biography vanished with the Star Trek Sim Group website, the Hunter is still an active part of the Delta Fleet (PBEM) sim group.
