Alden

Daniel Lloyd Alden was a Federation Starfleet officer on active duty in the 23rd century.

Alden had no canonical given name. In the continuities of Orion Press and the Shatnerverse (TOS novel: Captain's Peril), it was Lloyd, after the actor who had played him. In Pocket Books continuity, particularly the My Brother's Keeper trilogy, it was Daniel.

At the beginning of James T. Kirk's first five-year mission as commanding officer of the USS Enterprise, Alden was chief communications officer, though he was cross-trained to serve in other divisions. After the death of Gary Mitchell, he filled in as relief helmsman. Alden transferred off the ship soon afterwards. (TOS: "Where No Man Has Gone Before")

Orion Press

Alden requested a transfer after Kirk repositioned Lieutenant Nyota Uhura as chief communications officer. Alden took Kirk's decision personally and transferred to the USS Constitution. (Orion Press: "Helmsman")

By 2295, Alden was a commodore, and had become commanding officer of Starbase 211. (Old Feuds, "Before the After")

TOS novel: My Brother's Keeper trilogy

In late 2265, Alden transferred to the Delanos VI research colony, as his fiancée had just been appointed administrator there. (TOS novel: My Brother's Keeper trilogy: Constitution)
