"An Innocent Time" is the ninth episode of the first season of Star Trek: The Cantabrian Expeditions and the first episode of the Devil's Cradle arc.
Summary[]
Starfleet Command has grave concerns for top-secret research facility Starbase Expanse 12, commonly known as "Dante Station", nestled in the Devil's Cradle; they send the USS Cantabrian to investigate. But as the ship approaches the station, more and more bizarre events occur; the crew's pasts are coming back to haunt them. As their memories grow more and more distorted as time and space bend, the crew are threatened by people from their past. But their greatest challenge is about to emerge from the Cradle's depths...
Notes[]
- The Devil's Cradle is introduced in this episode, as are Dr. Samantha Delaney and Starbase Expanse 12 (also known as "Dante Station"). Dr. Henrik Delaney and the Delaneys' folded space drive prototype are mentioned for the first time in this series (being part of Star Trek: The Prospect Chronicles), as are the USS Rutherford (NX-76607), Jason Athelstan and the USS Prospect-A's recovery mission (all from Star Trek: The Prospect Chronicles: "Directive")
- The hallucinogenic properties of the spatial anomalies reveal several past events and back history for various members of the crew, including Liz Singh's hours before the USS Rebellious enters the Battle of Wolf 359 and Tony Fernandes's last conversation with his late partner, Olivia De Luca, aboard the USS Wellington (NCC-28473), before her death.
- This episode starts a four-episode arc that ends in "Better the Devil You Know". Samantha Delaney and her folded-space drive prototype will return in Season Two, where Delaney will act as a main adversary.
