Archer IV is the fourth planet orbiting 61 Ursae Majoris, also known as the Archer system. It was one of two planets named after pioneering human explorer Jonathan Archer. (ENT: "Strange New Worlds", "Home", "In a Mirror Darkly, Part II")
- 61 Ursae Majoris is 31.2 light-years from Earth. The system's being home to a Federation world may preclude its being the home system to the Kzinti in the Star Trek universe, as it is in Larry Niven 's original tales of that species.
The planet was first charted by the Earth Starfleet vessel Enterprise (NX-01) in 2151, the first Minshara-class world discovered by the Enterprise crew after beginning their mission of exploration. (ENT: "Strange New World")
In 2366, the USS Enterprise-D was due to visit the planet for a diplomatic conference between the Federation and the Klingons. (TNG: "Yesterday's Enterprise")
- In an alternate timeline, a temporal rift appeared near the Archer system, depositing the USS Enterprise-C from the year 2344 into a dark future where the Federation was at war with the Klingon Empire. This timeline was averted when the Enterprise-C returned through the rift to the battle of Narendra III. (TNG: "Yesterday's Enterprise")
Archerian slug wine originated from this planet. Quark was among those that believed replicated slug wine was a poor imitation of the real thing produced on Archer IV. (DS9 novel: The 34th Rule)
