The Argo-type shuttlecraft was an experimental auxiliary craft designed to carry an armed, highly maneuverable off-road ground vehicle capable of carrying three crew members. The shuttlecraft is capable of being flown by remote control by a control padd attached to the ground vehicle's dash board.

The shuttlecraft was warp capable and carries minimal weaponry. The aft half of the cabin contains a garage facility where the ground vehicle is stored and secured to the deck during flight. A large ramp extends from the stern of the shuttlecraft to allow entry and egress of the ground vehicle.

The ground vehicle, or Jeep as some crew members refer to it, was capable of speeds up to 145 kilometers per hour and comes equipped with off-road suspension and a compression phaser rifle mounted either on the rear panel (for which the third passenger can turn their seat around to use) or, in some versions, on the roof above the front passengers, allowing a standing gunner to fire forward or to the sides.

As of 2383, the Argo-type shuttlecraft system was still under evaluation aboard Sovereign-class starships, most notably the USS Enterprise-E and the USS Dauntless. (Star Trek: Dauntless)
