Assistant chief medical officer

The assistant chief medical officer (also know as the assistant CMO) is a position held, typically, by a lieutenant or lieutenant commander. When the chief medical officer is not onboard ship or is incapacitated the assistant chief medical officer assumes the duties of the chief medical officer. While acting in this capacity the assistant CMO possesses all the authority, duties, and responsibilities of the CMO.
