The Atlantic Free States were a political entity consisting of seven states that seceded from the United States of America in the mid-21st century. (Star Trek: Shadowstar Station: "Heritage")
- This is probably one of many ways in which Star Trek: Shadowstar Station continuity differs from aired Trek, especially TNG: "The Royale", in which the United States is said to have 52 states between 2033 and 2079.

On 20 January 2057, the states of Puerto Rico, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, Alabama and Mississippi seceded from the United States to form the Atlantic Free States. Charleston, South Carolina, was declared the new capital.
