When the two engage combat, the crew of the Phoenix-X find that the Scorpion is capable of matching each and every one of thier moves. This realization is followed by the fact that Meloneus had joined the Fragma Alliance, and therefore recieved well-equipped upgrades from them. But when Shane is traded over to Meloneus in exchange for the Phoenix-X's crew's lives, the Cardassian finds he gets more than he bargained for.
