The Bajorans were a species native to the planet Bajor in the Alpha Quadrant.
Culture[]
Bajorans were known to be highly religious; the Bajoran religion was centered around worshipping the Prophets that resided into the Celestial Temple. (DS9: "Emissary")
History[]
The Bajorans were exploring space by means of solar sail vessels as early as the 16th century CE, and at least one such vessel, boosted to faster-than-light velocities by tachyon eddies, crash-landed on Cardassia Prime. (DS9: "Explorers")
In 2328, Bajor was occupied by the Cardassians. The Bajoran people eventually rose up against the Cardassians, forming the Bajoran Resistance. 41 years after the occupation began, the Cardassians were forced off the planet by the Resistance in 2369. Following their departure, the Bajoran Provisional Government was formed, and members of the Resistance formed the Bajoran Militia.
At this point, members of the Federation Starfleet, along with the Militia, took joint command of Deep Space 9, which was known as Terok Nor when under Cardassian control. Soon after Starfleet arrived, the Bajoran wormhole was rediscovered and DS9 was moved from orbit around Bajor to the mouth of the wormhole. (DS9: "Emissary")
Star Trek: Valkyrie[]
Official first contact between the Federation and the Bajoran government occurred in 2295. A party led by First Officer Andrew Miller of the USS Valkyrie visited the capital city of Ashalla and toured various governmental, religious, medical and military facilities at the invitation of First Minister Reena. The Cardassian Union had begun expanding their influence in Bajoran affairs at this time, ostensibly to assist in their security. The actions and motives of the Cardassians caused much disagreement among government ministers. (Star Trek: Valkyrie: "Touch of the Prophets")
Bait and Switch[]
In ancient times, the Bajorans referred to themselves as Insh'alhalan, a name which would be used by the Preservers. This name apparently fell into disuse some time after the nation-state Bajora began wars of conquest. (Beat the Drums of War)
The Bajorans' early warp-capable ships were armed with coilguns. They purchased directed energy weapon technology from the Ferengi later. ("A Changed World")
Physiology[]
While Bajorans outwardly resembled humans, they were known to have nasal creases. (TNG: "Ensign Ro")
