The Balthasar commanding officer was Fleet Captain Bob Van Tuinen with his son Colonel Rob Van Tuinen acting as first officer.
The 8th MACO SOU was station aboard the Balthasar and was headed by Lt. April "Ape" Victorine. They were colloquially known as the Crazy 8's.
After the establishment of the Federation, Balthasar was deployed to the Starfleet Fourth Fleet.
