The Battle of Axanar was a battle fought by the United Federation of Planets during the 23rd century. Following the battle Garth of Izar's tactics became required reading at Starfleet Academy. (TOS: "Whom Gods Destroy")

In 2250, several Valley Forge-class cruisers (notably USS Lafayette under Captain J. Robert Fitzpatrick and USS Tokyo under Captain Jonas Barstow) saw action with Garth of Izar at the Battle of Axanar. (The Starfleet Museum: Valley Forge-Class Cruisers, Siegfried-Class Dreadnoughts)
