Captain Bernie Tyler was a Starfleet officer in the late 24th century.

Personal History[]

Bernie was on shore leave from the USS Tian An Men with his girlfriend Roslyn when their runabout crashed on Aloran IV. Patrick Ingrum located them and beamed them onto his runabout, the Neosho. Soon after, they discovered the USS Baldwin adrift in space. Patrick would become captain of the Baldwin, with Bernie accepting a spot as a operations manager.

During the raid on Torros III, Baldwin was attacked by a Jem'Hadar attack ship, which kidnapped Roslyn by orders of the Dominion. Bernie learned that Roslyn was a augment, and participated in a rescue mission. (USS Baldwin: "The Find")

On stardate 51080.7, Bernie was promoted to the rank of lieutenant commander and accepted a position as executive officer of the USS Ottawa. (USS Baldwin: "Wartime Productions")

In late August 2377, Ottawa captain Jenna Carson participated in a survey on Grecon IV. After the runabout Verdigris had departed, Ottawa received a distress call from a Cardassian freighter. Also responding was the USS Hainan. In the process of dispatching the attacking ships, one ship intentionally collided with the Hainan, forcing the Ottawa to pick retrieve Hainan's survivors. (USS Baldwin: "Like the Rain")

In September 2377, Bernie was offered command of the USS Winchester with the opportunity to pick his senior staff. He chose Roslyn as his chief engineer and Sonya Fiehrer as his executive officer. (USS Baldwin: "Wild Roses")

Personal relationships[]

Roslyn[]

As an ensign aboard the USS Tian An Men, Bernie was intrigued by a attractive, but shy, young ensign named Roslyn. He asked if he could sit with her in the mess hall. From there, their relationship quickly blossomed until they spent most of their free time together. (USS Baldwin: "Like the Rain") They had drifted apart after Bernie was transferred to the USS Ottawa, partially because they had trouble maintaining a long-distance relationship. (USS Baldwin: "Departure") However, when they reunited in August of 2377, they realized they still loved each other. They quickly renewed their relationship, to the point where they where caught "snogging" in the turbolift. (USS Baldwin: "Like the Rain") Bernie and Roslyn were married in an impromptu ceremony aboard the Baldwin, with Captain Ingrum officiating. (USS Baldwin: "Wild Roses")

Background[]

The surname "Tyler" is a tip of the hat to Russell T. Davies, who frequently uses the surname in his work, particularly with the character Rose Tyler from the 2005 revival of Doctor Who.
