The Beta Rigel system is a single star system located in the Beta Quadrant. It supports a system of at least ten planets, at least six of which are inhabited, and is home to at least three "indigenous" races as well as numerous Federation colonists. The United Rigel Colonies is the system's governing body.
The Beta Rigel primary itself is a star of spectral class A5V with an absolute magnitude of 6.2.
It is often confused for the "true" Rigel, Beta Orionis.
