Bishop

Bishop was an android created by the X.S. Tech corporation and served as the Chief Surgeon of the Interplanetary Convention Center. (Star Trek: Voyager - Dark Realm)

History

Bishop was named after noted human cybernetics researcher Professor Tom Bishop of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, one of the first humans to make contact with X.S. Tech. The Bishop android encountered by the Voyager away team was modeled on his creator and took his creator's name. As such he was the first such type of android produced by the X.S. Tech corporation.

Bishop stated that his type of androids were to appear as human as possible with the purpose of putting humanoid patients at ease. And he would say that no two Bishop-type androids were identical in appearance. This was demanded by Dr. Bishop, his creator, and carried out by the X.S. Tech production line.

According to scans performed by William Telfer, the Bishop android appeared to be more advanced than the Soong-type android. The synthetic flesh alone was years ahead of the similar covering for Lieutenant Commander Data.

When the Voyager away team encountered Bishop, he stated that his class of android was only recently coming into production with only one hundred and forty-seven units presently active throughout the galaxy. (Star Trek: Voyager - Dark Realm)

Encountering the Voyager away team

Bishop would first encounter the United Federation of Planets when a stranded away team, in company with Doctor Emmett Brown, Clara Clayton, and Marty McFly landed at the Interplanetary Convention Center. The group had two injured personnel, with one in critical condition.

Bishop would treat a severely wounded Celes Tal after she had been shot by 3D and successfully remove a 9mm slug from Celes with minimal impact. (Star Trek: Voyager - Dark Realm)

Capabilities

The Bishop android's reflexes and average physical strength were greater than those of most humanoids.

He was programmed with inhibitions against harming any lifeform as well as with detailed files on the biologies of at least one hundred and seventy-eight humanoid species. His CPU was also capable of learning.

He could download files via a wireless uplink from most computer interfaces, to include Federation tricorders and could remotely control any medical robots in his infirmary. He could remotely control up to twenty-seven medical robots. (Star Trek: Voyager - Dark Realm)

Behind the scenes

Bishop was named as a nod to Lance Henrikson's character in the motion pictures Aliens and Alien 3.
