History[]
Robert F. Karo grew up in a small south Louisiana town. As a child, he was always interested in going out into the woods and swamps to hunt, fish, camp and other seasonal outdoor activities. He was raised not only by his parents but also his grandparents who lived next door. It was his grandfather who would take him into the outdoors while his father would tend to his small practice.
In 2371, Karo enrolled at the University of Louisiana with a pre-med major. During his sophomore year he began dating his future fiance. She would enroll in Starfleet Academy in 2373 at the outbreak of the Dominion War. A year later, shortly after they were engaged, she died in a training accident. He had come to call her his beloved, Imzadi his mother's people would say. Although he fell into a depression, he completed his studies and graduated in the top 75% of his class.
Dominion War and aftermath[]
The war was going badly for the Federation and Karo decided he had a duty to join Starfleet. In 2374, he enlisted and became a medic assigned to a front line ground forces unit. He served with distinction and was decorated on two separate occasions. After the signing of the Treaty of Bajor, Karo returned to Earth and was accepted to Starfleet Medical Academy. Excelling in his studies, Karo graduated and was granted his requested assignment to the USS Mercy (NCC-57818) assigned to Cardassian relief efforts.
Rise and Fall[]
In 2382, Lieutenant Karo requested a transfer to a section of the Diplomatic Corps coordinating the rebuilding of many of the remote parts of the the former DMZ and Cardassian space. He had many responsibilities involving independent work setting up clinics and coordinating with local authorities.
It was during this time he was recruited as an asset by officers in Starfleet Intelligence for a number assignments tracking Orion Syndicate involvement in several newly independent systems. He eventually accepted a promotion to Lieutenant Commander and began working as a full time case officer assigned to the Federation Embassy on Farius Prime. Although his work there was for the most part successful, a failed operation in 2388 marred his reputation in the intelligence community.
Karo was reassigned back to where he started, serving on a starship. He accepted an assignment as Chief medical officer on the USS Crusader under Captain Candela Greene.
