Bread is a short story by the pseudonymous jespah.

The story is told from the dual perspectives of Leah Benson and Leah Benson, both at Starfleet headquarters and on the USS Defiant (NCC-1764).

On April 4, 2192, in the prime universe, Benson is the official Starfleet rabbi, and is providing support and perspective as the new Federation welcomes newer members from the Caitian home world, Denobula and the Xyrillian home world. At home, her wife, Diana Jones, is suffering from Irumodic syndrome and is becoming more and more forgetful.

In the mirror universe, on the USS Defiant (NCC-1764), her counterpart is trying to stay alive and out of trouble, as Empress Hoshi's youngest son, Izo Sato, attempts to romance her. This version of Leah is trying to get out, and needs the mirror version of Diana to help her stay on Andoria.
