The Burke class of frigates were Federation starships commissioned in the first quarter of the 23rd century, with the service of some of these ships lasting into the late 2250s and beyond.
The Burkes were built at the Salazaar Shipyard. Nine Mk I Burke-class ships were destroyed during the Four Years War. (FASA: Starship Tactical Combat Simulator: Burke Class VIII Frigate)
- In FASA continuity, the Burkes entered service in the 2240s. In Delta Dynamics continuity, they were commissioned as early as 2221. (Star Fleet Starship Recognition Manual: Report #291: Burke Frigates)
The class consisted of three subclasses: Burke, Aldrin, and Magellan. (Report: Burke Frigates)
- In FASA continuity, there were three iterations of Burkes: Mark I (2245), Mark II (2255), and Mark III (2262). The decision to retire the class was made in 2267.
