Caitlin Emily Rutherford was a Starfleet officer on active duty in the late 23rd and early 24th centuries.

Born in 2271, Rutherford graduated 14th in a class of 800 from Starfleet Academy. She was assigned as ship's mathematician on the USS Avenger on 31 May 2293, succeeding Xiomara Michaelsen, who had transferred to the USS Blackheart. (Star Trek: Avenger: "A Visit to the Physical Science Chief's Office")

Rutherford also had a brief appearance in Star Trek: Shadowstar Station: "Pomp and Circumstantial Evidence", set in 2296.

Rutherford participated in a landing party on Veshkam III in October of 2296. (Star Trek: Avenger: "Time Waits for No Man")

For one year in the 2300s, Rutherford doubled as one of the ship's training officers. As well, twice in the period between 2305 and 2310, she was host of a media segment in which she would take viewers on a "tour" of Avenger's non-classified areas as well as answer questions from students in primary and secondary school. (Star Trek: Avenger: "Nearly a Valediction")

In the summer of 2310, while Avenger was in Earth orbital drydock for resupply and reprovisioning, in preparation for its next five-year mission, Rutherford realized she had spent as much time on Avenger as she would have to raise a child to adulthood. ("Nearly a Valediction")
