[The War of the Masters continuity]

Species: Chameloid[]

Origin: prehistory/lost history of the Klingon Empire.

Homeworld: unknown/lost to time.

Description:

Chameloids are biologically compatible with most forms of Klingonoid life including Humans, Bajorans Cardassians, Orions, and of course, Klingons. In their 'natural state' they are fairly large, muscular and somewhat ugly beings (as depicted in Star Trek VI).

all Chameloids are biologically female. In a pairing with a compatible Klingonoid male, the female pairing ends up being two out of every five fertilizations, the other three being males of the father's species.

Chameloids are Mass-limited shape shifters incapable of imitating non-organic materials. When shifting to a shape with less volume, their density increases, when adopting a larger form than their baseline, density reduces.

Known History and Reputation of this subspecies;[]

Chameloids are relatively rare, the oldest suspected record being one of Molor's Wives (The unseen death with no honor), but sprinked througout Klingon and Klingon Empire folklore and history, you find occasional references to them as 'decievers', prostitutes, spies, and assassins.

The Dominion crisis of the late 2360's through mid 2370s saw pogroms against known or suspected Chameloids inside the Empire, with a record six thousand identified samples of the species being murdered in riots in First City alone.

Estimated numbers throughout Klingon Empire and neighboring space are under 20,000, making this an 'endangered' species by most federation standards.

It is extremely rare for a Chameloid to live openly among non-shape-shifters, the most well known of those that do, is Lt. Colonel Jena of the Moab Confederacy Defense Forces. Within the rest of the Empire, Chameloids that are known to the authorities are required to submit biometric information and register their residences and movements with Klingon Intelligence's domestic branch. Those caught commiting crimes, registered or not, WILL BE registered, even if they are given a death sentence for their criminal actions.

Just in case.
