The Charam class of starships were a class of advanced Federation vessels being tested in 2270. At least one was constructed at the Bremerton Shipyards in orbit above Earth. (Melbourne: Storm Front)
In appearance, the Charams resembled a Constitution-class heavy cruiser of the period, except that the warp nacelles were approximately 20 percent longer than many LN linear warp-drive units. The primary hull was circular, though had cutouts -- presumably for sensor emplacements -- around it, and the secondary hull's form may have inspired those of the Ambassador-class heavy cruisers that would debut fifty years later.
Only one vessel was known to exist, the USS Melbourne, which underwent shakedown trials under the command of Captain Nathan Cooper.
Nomenclature[]
The class name was derived from charam, a Hebrew word referring to destruction, or proscription.
