For the 24 character named Charles Logan, see: List of 24 characters referenced in Star Trek fanon

Charles "Chaz" H. Logan was a Starfleet engineer in the late 24th Century. His career largely involved supervising the construction of new classes of Federation starships. In late-2364, he ascended to the position of chief engineer of the USS Enterprise-D. During his time on that ship, he butted heads with conn officer Geordi LaForge (who ironically would become chief engineer the following year) in disagreement over who should be in command during a combat situation in the absence of most of the senior bridge crew. (TNG: "The Arsenal of Freedom" Star Trek: Lambda Paz: "Revenge a Dish Best Served Cold")

Some time after his tour on the Enterprise, Logan became one of the supervising engineers for the Luna-class starships, shortly after the discovery of the Bajoran wormhole in 2369. In accordance with the practice of a new class of starship having multiple chief engineers in the first year of service, Logan was assigned as senior chief engineer with warp engine specialist Shinar sh'Aqba also serving as a chief engineer. (Star Trek: Lambda Paz: "Revenge a Dish Best Served Cold")

Background information[]

Logan was played by Vyto Ruginis in TNG: "The Arsenal of Freedom" and was only known by his surname in canon. The first name Charles was established in the TNG comic "Suspect" (although the character was said to have been killed in that story). The practice of a starship carrying multiple chief engineers in the first year of service is based on William T. Riker's reference to Argyle as "one of our chief engineers" in TNG: "Where No One Has Gone Before".
