Christopher Pike was a Federation Starfleet officer who served as the commanding officer of the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701). While commanding that vessel, Pike was captured and tortured by Nero. While recovering from his injuries, he was promoted to the admiralty and command of the Enterprise passed to James T. Kirk. (Star Trek)
