The Christopher Pike Medal of Valor, also referred to as the Pike Medal, was a prestigious medal awarded to Starfleet officers in recognition of remarkable leadership, meritorious conduct and acts of personal bravery. The medal had to be authorized by the President of the United Federation of Planets. (DS9: "Tears of the Prophets"; Bait and Switch: The Wrong Reflection) Recipients of the medal can place the acronym "C.P.M.V." after their names in written correspondence or other communications if they so choose. (30 Worlds: Royal Megaforce: "Masters of the Ultimate Power")
- The Christopher Pike Medal of Valor is named in honor of former Starfleet Fleet Captain Christopher Pike.
In late 2374, Captain Benjamin Sisko received this medal from Starfleet Command for his role in the Dominion War, in particular for his acts of personal bravery displayed during the battle to retake Deep Space 9. (DS9: "Tears of the Prophets")
Captain Solok of the USS T'Kumbra received two of these medals, the second in early 2375. (DS9: "Take Me Out to the Holosuite")
Captain Benjamin Kelsoe received this medal for his action in preventing the assassination of Federation President Korvin Mot in 2381. Admiral Toshio Kawamura presented the medal to Kelsoe three months after he was rescued from his imprisonment by Tyson Calok and the So'ja Coalition. (STP: "Prime Target", "Everything Changes")
In 2401, following the Frontier Day Disaster, members of the Scarlett Army starship DDV Gansett were presented with the Pike Medal for "conspicuous gallantry and actions above and beyond the grandest traditions of service to [this] Federation." (The Pike Medal presentation was warranted as the ships of the Scarlett Army were acting as Starfleet ships by Federation President Anton Chekov's order at the time.) One of the Gansett's officers, Zenon Kar--at just 14 Terran-standard years old--became the youngest-ever-recorded recipient of the Pike Medal. (30 Worlds: Royal Megaforce: "Masters of the Ultimate Power")
Captain Kanril Eleya was initially passed over for the Pike after helping to defeat the 2410 Undine attack on Sol and Qo'noS, due to President Aennik Okeg's anger at her behavior at the preceding Klingon-Federation peace conference, and was instead given the Karagite Order of Heroism. Later that year Fleet Admirals William T. Riker and Klau tr'Kererek convinced Okeg to relent following the beginning of the Iconian War. It helped that High Admiral D'trel had publicly threatened to recommend Kanril for the Romulan Republic's Empress Ael Medal if Kanril didn't get the Pike.
