Chroniton radiation was radiation involving chronitons and usually indicated or allowed time travel.

In 2368, the Romulan Star Empire developed an interphase cloaking device, powered by an interphase generator. A by-product of the generator was chroniton radiation. (TNG: "The Next Phase") Chroniton torpedoes also emitted chroniton radiation. (VOY: "Before and After")

Chroniton radiation could cause either perceived or actual shifts in time. In 2373, USS Voyager crew member Kes was exposed to chroniton radiation, allowing her to jump between time frames within her life. (VOY: "Before and After") In the same year, the Orb of Time threw the USS Defiant back over 100 years to 2268 after creating a massive surge of chroniton radiation. (DS9: "Trials and Tribble-ations")

It could also be used for other purposes. In 2374, the Deep Space 9 crew attempted to drive the Prophet possessing Kira Nerys's body away through gradually flooding the Promenade with chroniton radiation, causing neither to get hurt in the process. (DS9: "The Reckoning")

Fan continuities[]

Star Trek: Pendragon[]

This type of radiation also could alter or affect some being's telepathic abilities. Exposure to chroniton radiation allowed Daniel Radke the ability to see and talk with alternate reality versions of himself. (Star Trek: Pendragon: Other Knights anthology: "Gravity")

This was rare as it was theorized his M'Tar enhancements might have enabled this new ability, triggered by exposure to the chroniton radiation.
