Caine's father Terrance was the commanding officer of the USS Gibraltar and the Second Patrol Task Force. His mother Patricia was the commanding officer of the USS Milan. His oldest sister, Eva, was the chief science officer of the USS Gustav P. Remington, while his older sister, Harriet, served as a science officer aboard the USS Sergei Korolev.
