The Coridans (sometimes the Coridanites) were an Alpha Quadrant species native to the planet Coridan III. (ENT: "Shadows of P'Jem", TOS: "Journey to Babel", Star Trek: False Vacuum: "Scrap Yard Vegas")
Culture[]
Coridan diplomats wore some mask that gave them a crustacean appearance. (ENT novel: The Good That Men Do)
Coridans were known to engage in systematic grade skipping in both elementary school, which spanned seven years, and high school, which spanned five years (assuming that the student never skipped a grade), with the only "unskippable" grades being first year of elementary school and the final year of high school. Thus Coridans could tell apart who were the most academically skilled by the number of grades skipped. (Star Trek: False Vacuum: "Scrap Yard Vegas")
Coridans were depicted as an anti-intellectual culture, where intellectual pursuits are valued only for their utilitarian purposes. For this reason, the majority of the public intellectuals on Coridan are non-Coridans. In addition, hussade was played in high schools (and presumably at the university level) throughout the planet. (Star Trek: False Vacuum: "No plot? No problem!")
