The D'Anzari were a pre-warp drive species native to the second planet of the Delta Heleus system in the Perseus Arm in the Milky Way Galaxy. (Chronicle)
By 2370, a star in the Delta Heleus system was emitting lambda radiation, which would be deadly to the D'Anzari within a matter of time. They built primitive warp drives to escape the planet and the system.
In 2370, the USS Chronicle, the first Starfleet vessel to travel to that region of the galaxy, made first contact with the D'Anzari.
Chronicle's commanding officer Captain Lee Duchene argued aiding the civilization would be a necessary exception made to the Prime Directive. His mostly-Vulcan command staff argued that they should stick to the letter of the law. (Chronicle: "Yesterday is Waiting")
