The Daredevil class interceptor was a class of Federation starship in operation during the mid- to late-23rd century. They were designed to intercept vessels of unknown origin and make observations of the ship's strengths and weaknesses. Once an assessment and a decision was made, the ship either engaged or escorted the unknown vessel.
They were based on the Saladin-class/Hermes-class design, were fully armed, and employed two warp nacelles for maximum speed and power. Daredevils often operated under the auspices of Starfleet Intelligence and Starfleet Security. (Orion Press: Encounters and Countermoves, "Captain's Bars")
