Dave Bailey

David "Dave" Bailey was a Federation Starfleet officer on active duty in the 23rd century.

Lieutenant Bailey transferred to the USS Enterprise after the death of alpha-shift helmsman Lieutenant Commander Gary Mitchell on Delta Vega in 2265, and Lieutenant Hikaru Sulu's repositioning from astrophysicist to helmsman. (TOS novel: My Brother's Keeper trilogy: Constitution) Sulu and Bailey were roommates. (Orion Press: Chekov's Enterprise)

After Enterprise's first contact with a member of the First Federation, Bailey became the Federation liaison to this newly-encountered species. (TOS: "The Corbomite Maneuver")

In 2270, Bailey was promoted to commander and given command of the USS Nelson, a destroyer on patrol near Orion territory. (Orion Press: "False Colors", "...Is Yet Revenge")

By the mid-2280s, Bailey was an officer in Starfleet's Planetary Relations division. (Orion Press: "The Return")

Circa 2286, Bailey was one of the former Enterprise officers who rejoined Kirk and the crew of the USS Enterprise-A when they battled aliens who had attacked Starfleet, Klingon and Romulan vessels since at least the 2250s. (TOS novel: Debt of Honor)

Pavel Chekov was posted to command of the USS Enterprise-B in the early 2290s, following the apparent death of James T. Kirk. Bailey, by then a captain himself, was among the former original Enterprise officers who congratulated him. (Chekov's Enterprise)
