David Janus Alistair Vlekkenbaaij was a Starfleet Intelligence officer on active duty in the 23rd and early 24th centuries. He was rarely called David and more often called David Janus or D.J.
Vlekkenbaaij was born in 2251 on New Azania to Lenore and Arthur Vlekkenbaaij (though Nikolai Barstow was his biological father). He graduated from Starfleet Academy in 2273 with honors.
Vlekkenbaaij was involved in Operation Blackjack in the late 2280's. (Star Trek: Shadowstar Station: Operation Blackjack) In 2292, he was posted to USS Avenger on temporary assigned duty as ship's intelligence officer. (Star Trek: Avenger: "Belonging")
In 2313, Vlekkenbaaij was revealed to be an agent of the Terran Purification League and part of a cell that had killed Andreas Kitabatu al-'Qalb's wife, Laurena Cytrynbaum, and unborn child in 2298. Vlekkenbaaij, Adam Lemuel and their respective families were killed in revenge. (Star Trek: Shadowstar Station: "A Separate War")
Background information
Vlekkenbaaij's surname was after Frits Homerus Vlekkenbaaij, a character in Pramoedya Ananta Toer's Anak Semua Banga (Child of All Nations), a novel of the Buru Tetralogy.
