Deirdre McHugh

Lieutenant Commander Deirdre Rae McHugh, M.D. was a Federation Starfleet science officer and psychiatrist on active duty in the late 23rd and early 24th centuries. (Star Trek: Accord; Star Trek: Shadowstar Station)

McHugh entered Starfleet Academy at age 18, and completed all required coursework in four years. She had focused on life sciences as a major with an eye on getting her medical degree at a later time. She graduated in 2295 with a class rank of 20th of 800.

Her first posting was to the USS Accord as a junior scientist (life sciences) with the rank of ensign. She was promoted to lieutenant junior grade in 2298.

In 2300, McHugh transferred off Accord to pursue advanced studies. She received her medical degree from the University of Santo Tomas (Manila Metroplex, the Philippines) in 2304, then undertook a psychiatric residency at Shadowstar Station with the rank of lieutenant. She finished her residency in 2308, and was promoted to lieutenant commander, but stayed aboard the station as part of its medical staff for another 13 years, until 2321.

Personal

Dr. McHugh has been married to Lieutenant Commander Maria Palmer, an astrophysicist, since 2306, though their Starfleet assignments have often kept them distant from each other. They first met when Palmer was assigned to Shadowstar Station in the 2300s.

Parents are still alive, though Dr. McHugh is not close to them. She has an older half-sister, Dr. Samantha McHugh, M.D., also a xenopsychiatrist. The older Dr. McHugh is currently assigned to Starbase 1.
