Distress Call is the 2nd episode of the first RIS Bouteina season, completed on November 15, 2009.

Teaser[]

Space... the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Bouteina. Its five-year mission to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no Romulan has gone before.

Summary[]

Act One[]

On its way to Talvath, Annika Hansen tries to get used to her crew. Because of the Illyrian cigarettes, the first flight controller becomes sick and the second flight controller, Relm, takes his place while the first flight controller is in sickbay. While both people were in the sickbay doing a Léger-Boucher Test, they were being hailed.

Act Two[]

Annika has decided, after listening to the last hail, to get to the coordinates transmitted by the USS Vortex. In addition, due to Putal's role in the incident involving Zama, the last flight controller, he is confined to quarters for 10 days. Relm and Vox'ula quarrel over the role of non-Romulans in the Romulan Star Navy on the bridge.

Act Three[]

Once they have arrived in the Apailana system, they read that not only the Vortex has been sucked in, but also the USS Voyeur, the IKV Naq'jej and the GHS Marianela, all fighting a pirate fleet defending Apailana V. Since the Vortex was hit by no less than a dozen photonic missiles, her captain and her helm officer shouted Leeroy Jenkins while ramming the enemy flagship (and subsequently destroying both ships with loss of all hands.) At the same time, the ship scrambled her shuttles to fight the waves of attack fighters scrambled from both carriers and facilities on the surface.

Act Four[]

Reinforcements have arrived for the wayward Mirak. As the Mirak carriers are being destroyed, another Mirak carrier and a Mirak assault carrier arrived to help fight back the task force. The Federation ships, like the USS Bianca, began attacking the smaller carrier. In response to this threat, Annika ordered to load the phased plasma torpedoes and fire them at the assault carrier. This caused sufficient damage to the ship to trigger the assault carrier's multi-vector mode. Because the life support systems were damaged, Putal's punishment was temporarily rescinded.

Act Five[]

As Relm shoots down a fighter, the fighter's hulk goes out and hit the starboard section's battle bridge. And the fusion beams continued to damage the Bouteina, but the saving grace came under the form of Gorn missiles, who damaged the enemy ships beyond repair while the other Mirak carrier was shot down. Only the intervention of the Naq'jej could save the Bouteina from complete destruction. Once the battle is over, a Mirak fleet, whose flagship houses the Patriarch of the Mirak Star League, has arrived in peace.
