The Dominion were a powerful galactic empire from the Gamma Quadrant who controlled the species under its rule. (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine)
History[]
The Dominion was founded over 10,000 years ago by a race of changelings who later became known as the "Founders". Having been persecuted by "solids" for many years, they retreated to a rogue planet and decided to impose "order on a chaotic universe". They began enforcing their will on lesser species and elevated races such as the Vorta to sentience. Around 2,000 years ago, the Founders' genetic sciences evolved to the point where they could create entirely new species from scratch. From this, they created the Jem'Hadar, the most brutal soldiers in the known galaxy. (The Dominion War Sourcebook: The Fires of Armageddon)
In 2375, the Dominion went to war with the Federation Alliance, having absorbed both the Cardassians and the Breen into their might. With Damar's rebellion, and a viral attack from Section 31, the Federation Alliance, Odo, and then-betrayed-Cardassians were able to draw out a cease-fire and an end to the war. (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine)
In 2410, the Dominion joined with the Alliance after the conflict with the Hur'q was resolved, and agreed to relieve the Jem'Hadar of their ketracel-white addiction. (Star Trek Online)
In 2752, Fleet Captain Drayson Hardgrove gathered possible evidence the enemy-Alliance and the Dominion were conducting secret meetings together. (Star Trek: 001: "The Last Place You Look", "Alone", "The Changing of the Guard")
Other species[]
In Rihan, the Dominion was referred to as the "D'Nneikha" (literally "great empire"). (Bait and Switch: "Flaihhsam s'Spahkh")
