The Double~Helix was a bar aboard Starbase 001 located on The Deck in the mid 28th century. The bar itself covered at least two levels and was run by a Bolian named Lattrel Ottel. (Star Trek: 001)
History[]
Unbeknownst to most, Ottel used the Double~Helix as a cover for his true identity, which was a Smuggler's Coalition member. He was the middle-man for an unofficial two-way intelligence between the Coalition and Starfleet.
When Ottel witnessed an attack by an Alliance battleship, he was inspired to create a new drink exclusive to the Double~Helix called "Romulan Pale". ("Alone")
After Ottel was elected a council member for the Smuggler's Coalition, he transferred the managerial role for the Double~Helix to Hrag. ("When It Rains...")
