The Cardassian Eighth Order was a military unit in the Cardassian Guard.
The Eighth was responsible for defending the critical "Iron Path", a region that contained the systems with significant industrial capabilities that ran from the Cardassian Union's rimward and spinward through the Union. The Order was mainly concerned with during with pirates and other criminal elements. During the Dominion War found itself outclassed by well trained Federation Alliance crews with powerful starships and suffered heavily. (The Dominion War Sourcebook: The Fires of Armageddon)
At least one ship in this Order was stationed near the Federation-Cardassian border in the area of the Demilitarized Zone. Duties included stopping and searching all vessels entering Cardassian space. Gul Benil belonged to the Eighth Order. (DS9: "Second Skin")
