The Empire-Alliance wars were a series of three wars fought between the Terran Empire and the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance. (The Final Days, The Gift)

History[]

In the 23rd century, Spock was overthrown shortly after coming to power. The first of these wars was an outgrowth of one of the many wars fought between the Terran and Klingon empires, in which the explosion of Praxis forced the Klingons to agree to an alliance with Cardassia. The Cardassians were similarly forced into this, as they had been supplying weapons to an underground movement on Bajor, one of the occupied worlds in the Terran Empire, when Praxis exploded. This war ended in a relative stalemate, but the Empire was forced to cede Bajor.

In the second of these wars Earth allowed the Alliance to overrun Vulcan. By now Earth had come to view Vulcans as more of a liability than an asset, and agreed not to provide assistance to Vulcan rebels.

The third war broke out in 2344 following an incident at Narendra III. Few details are known of this incident, but the resulting war lasted some two decades, with heavy losses on both sides. In 2363 the Empire tried to break the deadlock by securing an Iconian gateway, but this backfired when the planet launched automated probes that disabled the invasion fleet’s software. What the Empire had left wasn’t enough to defend itself, leading to its defeat a year later.

At least one Terran commander, Jean-Luc Picard, is known to have defected to the Alliance in the closing days of the war.

In another continuity, a war during this time period led to a stalemate between the two powers. (Fandom Star Trek Chronology)
