Captain Erick Minard was a Federation Starfleet engineer and line officer, serving in both the 23rd and 24th centuries. (Starship Valiant; Melbourne; Constar Completed; Constar Chronicles; The Lexington Adventures)
Early life[]
Very little was revealed about Minard's early life, except for his having one brother. In 2254, he told "Number One", one of his senior officers on the Enterprise, that he had joined Starfleet to have the sense of family he didn't have while growing up. (Starship Valiant: "Cageless")
23rd century[]
One of Erick Minard's earliest shipboard assignments was as an engineer aboard the USS Enterprise under Captain Christopher Pike. After the Talos IV mission in 2254, Starfleet split up the crew and forbid them to discuss the mission, even among themselves. ("Cageless")
- Minard's rank while aboard Enterprise was unrevealed. It seems probable that he was an enlisted person or a warrant officer, the latter depending on past experience and training. (He may also have entered Starfleet Academy at a very young age since he was 18 when aboard Enterprise.) However, just before his transfer to the USS Valiant, Pike addresses him as "Lieutenant Minard".
In the 2250s and 60s, Lieutenant (later Lieutenant Commander) Minard was chief engineer of the Valiant under Captains Clark and Bishop. (Starship Valiant: "Legacy") He had been recommended for the post by Pike. ("Cageless")
On stardate 1317.5, Minard received a mysterious gift after a "death in the family." This gift came with the last message from the late Tim Samuels. Inside was a piece of quadlithium. Minard was exposed to its radiations, which slowed down his aging process so that he appeared to age only 15 to 20 years over the next century. ("The Valhalla Stone"; Constar Completed: "Tilt-a-whirl"; Constar Chronicles: "Shakedown")
- It is unclear when Minard was promoted to lieutenant commander. He holds the rank in "The Ancient Light", set about 2260 or 2261, but "The Valhalla Stone" -- where he is a lieutenant -- is set on stardate 1317.5 (2265).
After the death of his wife Emily during a battle with the Suculon Empire in 2269, Minard visited her favorite spot on Earth -- where Minard had proposed to her. Here, he met a counterpart from an alternate timeline, who had also suffered a loss. ("Without Reward" Minard was considered for the executive officer billet on the prototype vessel USS Melbourne in 2270, but another officer was selected by Captain Nathan Cooper. (Melbourne: "First Duty"; Constar Completed: "Between You and Me"; "Endless Winter"; "Sinking in the Swamp")

Minard was offered a promotion to become commanding officer of the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards. He was torn to make the choice to accept the promotion but decided to instead take command of the USS Constar. ("Between You and Me", "Fantastic Daily")
Although his Command of the Constar was short-lived. It would come to an end when he was forced to abandon ship in escape pods with the rest of his crew. After linking up with his crew on the planet's surface they waited for another ship for rescue. (Sinking)
While Minard and James T. Kirk knew each other primarily by reputation, they did not actually communicate until the mid-2270s, when they had a strong difference of opinion over the enemies of the Federation. ("Requiem")
- This conversation took place after the V'Ger incident.
Conspiracy and resignation[]
- After the explosion of Praxis Starfleet had trouble deciding what to do with Klingon civilians along the neutral zone. Minard was very vocal about Starfleet's handling of the situation. His opposition lead to Admiral Heihachiro Nogura demoting him from admiral back to captain, so he would not be in a position to cause trouble. Erick viewed this as a conspiracy and chose to leave Starfleet over the matter. He acquired a shuttle craft and left for deep space, he would not return until the mid 24th century. (Much Afraid)
24th century[]
During the Battle of Wolf 359, Minard assembled numerous Starfleet officers to be the skeleton crew of the "museum piece" Constitution-class USS Constar to aid in the evacuation of civilians. ("Resistance: A Star Trek Fan Production", "Break Free: A Star Trek Fan Production")
During the Dominion War, Minard was posted as commanding officer of the refit USS Constar (NCC-1036-A), a "Frankenstein" ship with the outer shells of the primary and secondary hulls, and warp nacelles, of the 23rd century Constar, but with parts of half a dozen vessels. The decision to salvage and upgrade her had been made by Minard and Commander Timoteo Russo a year earlier. ("Shakedown")
On December 4, 2373, Erick Minard died.
He had received an important message while en route to retake Deep Space 9 from the Dominion. Afterwards, MInard went to the holodeck to say his final words to his family and loved ones, including his son and late wife. As the effects of the quadlithium wore off, and in a combination with the war and other life stresses, Minards heart gave out. The ship's crew found Minard's body when the holodeck was opened. ("Change")
His grave was visited by many loving friends and colleagues. ("Full Circle")

A multiverse of Minards[]
Avalon Universe[]
Jamie Archer, on her first starship assignment, became one of Minard's protégés on the Valiant in the 2260s. He later recommended her for the chief engineer posting on the repaired USS Excalibur. (Avalon Universe: "Avalon Lost")
Nausea Universe[]
In another alternate timeline, Minard had been an absent father with little influence on his child's life. By the mid-24th century this downward spiral led to his being demoted back to lieutenant. This decline had much to do with his new drug addiction. He had many regrets about his family from whom he was estranged. This timeline's Minard met his end when Martinez shot him in the back, meeting a tragic end in the middle of the woods of an unknown world. ("Nausea")
