The Federation-Klingon War (2372-73) was a brief war between the United Federation of Planets and the Klingon Empire in 2372 and 2373.

The war has its roots in the Klingon-Cardassian War in early 2372, when the Federation refused to side with the Klingons. In response the Gowron withdrew the Khitomer Accords. The two powers barely avoided all out war when the Klingon fleet attacked the Starfleet administered Deep Space 9. (DS9: "The Way of the Warrior")

In late-2373, the Klingons demanded the Federation abandon their bases within the Archanis sector and deployed a force to reclaim the sector. (DS9: "Broken Link")

The Federation refused to yield Archanis and the two powers went to war. Following three months of fighting a ceasefire was brokered between the Federation and Klingons following the revelation that General Martok was a Changeling impostor. (DS9: "Apocalypse Rising")

The ceasefire was broken a few weeks later by the Klingons. (DS9: "Nor the Battle to the Strong")

The ceasefire was reinstated several days later. (DS9: "Nor the Battle to the Strong") The war would not officially be over until later that year when Gowron reinstated the Khitomer Accords following the Cardassian Union joining the Dominion. (DS9: "By Inferno's Light")
