A fictional avatar is a term for a "Mary Sue" version of the author -- more idealized, sometimes transplanted from the 20th or 21st century forward to the 23rd or 24th centuries, often with an identical name -- used as a character in a fan-fiction story.

The term may also be used for the starship or space station that is the fictional setting for a real-world Star Trek fan club.

Background[]

The term may have been invented by Alex Rosenzweig (real world) or Brenda Bell (real world).
