Lieutenant junior grade Ameline Des Jardins (pronounced "day-ZJAR-dan") was a Communications Officer aboard the USS Hathaway under the command of Captain Jeffery Pierce. (Star Trek: USS Hathaway)
Early Life and Career[]
Ameline Des Jardins was born in 2244 as Ameline Couvert. She met a young Starfleet Lieutenant named Robert Des Jardins in 2258 and they had a whirlwind relationship which was apt to happen in the pioneering days of the 2250s and 60s. In 2259 Ameline became unexpectedly pregnant, Ameline and Robert decide to keep the baby and were married that same year. She gave birth to their daughter Jessica in 2260. The marriage, however, was not meant to last. Robert and Ameline divorced after only two years of marriage in 2262 citing irreconcilable differences. Robert soon left on a deep space mission and Ameline was left to raise Jessica on her own. She spent the next 18 years raising her daughter. Jessica left for college in 2278. In 2279 Ameline, no longer needing to care for a child, decides it is time to live life for herself. She looked to the frontier for that life and joined Starfleet in 2279.
Starfleet Academy[]
In 2279 Ameline entered Starfleet seeking an exciting life that she felt she had missed while raising a child. Her interests soon turned to communications and information exchange and excelled. She graduated Starfleet in 2283 and was stationed to Starfleet's primary orbital station at Earth.
The Pre-Hathaway Missions[]
Des Jardins's keen ability to handle communication systems out of the Academy successfully got her assigned to a prime position at Earth's primary space dock but it was bitter sweet. She had hoped to explore space. When she expressed this to her superiors they made a commitment to her that when her tour at the station was over they would do what they could to get her on a deep space mission. In 2285 that opportunity came, she was promoted to Lieutenant junior grade and her commanding officer was able to get her assigned to USS Hathaway as Chief Communications Officer.
