The Cardassian First Order was a military unit in the Cardassian Guard.
The First Order was stationed in the central and rimward areas of the Cardassian Union and is the oldest and most prestigious order in the Guard. It has seen much action against the Klingon Empire but little against the Federation prior to the Dominion War. (The Dominion War Sourcebook: The Fires of Armageddon)
This Order maintained a presence on Empok Nor until the station's abandonment. Soldiers of its Third Battalion were experimented on with psychotropic drugs, but were known for their fanaticism even before the introduction of the drugs. Elements of this Order, however, were among the first to answer Damar's call to rebellion during the Dominion War. (DS9: "Empok Nor", DS9: "The Changing Face of Evil")
In an alternate universe, this Order served as the home guard for the Cardassia system itself. Despite the introduction of the new Galor-class ship, the First Order--and the Cardassian system as a whole--fell to Bajoran invasion in 2325.
