After the failure of the system to update the main page I've decided to try switching to STEU an automatic system as used by MA to update their main page. I've done that for the Template:featuredarticle so far. When next month ticks over it will automatically change to a new article without the need of someone actually doing anything. For the upcoming months I've simply used the most recent winners for that month from the archives, which means even if there isn't a new featured article for an upcoming month the main page will at least still change to show a different article.
This can be done for Template:featuredimage, quotes and even Template:DYN so that they will also automatically change when a new month comes around. The contributor of the month isn't really suitable for this system, I see two options, get rid of it entirely or keep it and be happy with the occasional nomination a year.

I should also add that I've reduced the protection on the main page and templates so that changes and fixes can be done by any registered user now. – JayLR 05:48, April 14, 2010 (UTC)
- Will nominations continue? I've noticed the community seems to be getting quite uninvolved lately on nominations and voting, which is why I decided to go ahead and nominate the Golin Dalar image (which has deserved it for quite some time, IMHO). - It's a real shame nobody is actively nominating and voting...there's a lot of deserving stuff on this wiki, I think. Might be worth one of those reminders that goes on everybody's talk pages once a month, reminding them to nominate and vote for stuff. Nerys Ghemor 02:42, August 1, 2010 (UTC)
