The Battle of Frontier Day (popularly known as the Frontier Day Disaster) was a battle fought between a Borg-assimilated Starfleet armada and an armada of ships that were registered to the mysterious interdimensional paramilitary group known as the Scarlett Army (which was acting as Federation vessels by order of Federation President Anton Chekov). It was the final battle between the United Federation of Planets and the Borg Collective and was fought in 2401.
An alliance of the Borg Collective and renegade Changeling infiltrators had secretly put the Borg-altered DNA of Jean-Luc Picard (from when he was Locutus of Borg) into the transporter systems of all Federation starships and installations, leaving all users of the systems under the age of 25 Terran years old vulnerable to assimilation. Furthermore, the new "Fleet formation mode" computer network (also based on technology from the Borg Reclamation Project) left all vessels connected to it vulnerable to assimilation as well.
The rebuilt USS Enterprise-D and an armada of vessels registered to the Scarlett Army (an interdimensional paramilitary force), who were not connected to the Fleet formation mode network, fought a two-pronged battle--the Enterprise-D fought a Borg cube in orbit of Jupiter which was broadcasting a signal that was controlling the assimilated ships and officers; while the Scarlett Army fleet fought to slow down the assimilated Starfleet ships in order to buy time for the Enterprise-D.
With the destruction of the Borg cube at Jupiter and the subsequent death of the Borg Queen, the assimilated Starfleet vessels and personnel were restored to their senses. (PIC: "Võx", "The Last Generation", 30 Worlds: Royal Megaforce: "Masters of the Ultimate Power")
Aftermath[]
The senior officers of the Enterprise-D and Commander Seven of Nine were given full pardons for their crimes related to the incident (including the hijacking of the Titan-A). In addition to her own pardon, Seven of Nine was promoted to the rank of Captain and was placed in command of the Titan-A following the last wishes of Titan Captain Liam Shaw, who was killed during the battle.
The new head of Starfleet Medical, Admiral Beverly Crusher, developed new transporter filtering techniques which removed the altered Borg DNA from all of the affected officers while also detecting the remaining Changeling infiltrators. (PIC: "The Last Generation")
A week after the battle, during the first Federation Council meeting held following the incident, members of the senior command staff of the DDV Gansett were presented with the Christopher Pike Medal of Valor for their actions during the Battle. One of those officers, 14-year-old Zenon Kar, became the youngest-ever-recorded recipient of the Pike Medal.
Following a letter sent by Kar to the Federation News Service recommending it, the Titan-A was renamed as the USS Enterprise-G (as the USS Enterprise-F was destroyed in the Battle). Captain Seven was offered command of the now-Enterprise-G, which she accepted, while Kar was named as the Enterprise-G's chief sponsor. (30 Worlds: Royal Megaforce: "Masters of the Ultimate Power")
