STARSHIP | |
Name: | GHS Marianela |
Class: | Ovirapt |
Type: | Freighter |
Affiliation: | Gorn Space Command (later Lyran Starfleet) |
Status: | Active 2401 |
- In RIS Bouteina, Gorn Hegemony ships were fitted with the prefix GHS in the same fashion Starfleet added USS before a ship's name.
Originally constructed as a Prime Industries heavy enforcer, its architecture was likened to that of a Gorn freighter, hence its boxy design. The ship had a career of looting unsuspecting ships in the southern segment of the Neutral Zone and the northwest border of the Klingon Empire. Its Mirak reporting name was Marianela and it meant Ravageosaur in Gorn (cinnamon in Mirak). By 2376, though, it has been captured while operating in Gorn border zones. Her crew was allowed to operate the ship, under a Gorn captain, on the promise to loot from pirates rather than from civilians.
Since its Prime Industries builders didn't seem to name their ships, the Gorn Space Command adopted the Mirak reporting name, because using "dinosaur"-ish names displeased the Black Crest at the time, even more so when the Federation reporting name was Ravageosaur.
She took part in Operation Telenoes alongside the USS Bianca and the IKV Naq'jej with the RIS Bouteina as reinforcement.(RIS Bouteina: "Distress Call")
Somewhere between 2384 and 2401, probably after the conquest of the Gorn Hegemony by the Klingon Empire, the ship was returned to its freighter status, being captured by the Lyran Star Empire by 2401. Its chief flight controller, Skardal, (and, by Gorn customs, its commanding officer) took part in a soapbox car race with her first officer, Mullor. (Star Trek: The Stoneship Files: "At the Soapbox Races")
Background[]
The GHS Marianela was named after the book and the character of the same name created by Benito Pérez Galdós.
- To some of the Gorn who served aboard the ship and especially the linguist, the ship's career has been likened to the character of the book, especially since they kept a holodeck program of the book's setting.
