The Geronimo class was a class of Federation Starfleet long-range exploration cruiser/carrier in existence during the mid-23rd century. (Axanar: Prelude to Axanar)
Conception[]
The Geroninos were developed in 2235 as part of the "New Fleet Initiative." Modular and quick to assemble, they were one of the largest ships to come out of the project. While designed as a long-range exploratory vessel, ships of this class could also serve as relief vessels due to their dual secondary hulls.
Deployment[]
These ships were commonly found on the extreme edges of Federation space, and were considered prestigious assignments.
During the Four Years War, Geronimo-class ships would act as shuttle and fighter carriers and invasion platforms against hostile installations and sensitive targets. They also had formidable firepower from the eight photon torpedo launchers. As well, the Geronimos had strong hulls stemming from their compact but bulky design.
After the war, they resumed normal duties relieving colonies of war damage. Ships of the class retired only after new ships with technology derived from the Constitution class were more prevalent.
