Gervasio Valdez was the tactical officer of the USS Pioneer since 2381. (Star Trek: Pioneer)

Early years[]

Gervasio Valdez was born on October 15th, 2354 in Mexico City on the planet Earth. His parents were Commander Jorge and Captain Maria Valdez. He has a three year older brother, Antonio, and a one year younger sister, Juanita, who he played with a lot while growing up in the many parks and pools in Mexico City.

Academy years (2370-2374)[]

His father died when he started schooling at the Academy. Valdez met his wife while attending Starfleet Academy. She was an art student at the San Francisco Academy of Arts. At the Academy Valdez became friends with Dr. Rhell and Ensign Kavoc, both of whom he would later see again when he was assigned to the USS Pioneer. It was also at the Academy where Valdez developed a talent for racquetball and for playing the violin.

Early career[]

Valdez spent most of his career aboard the USS Intrepid, serving on the Security Staff. Valdez was promoted to lieutenant and reassigned to the USS Pioneer upon the promotion of Commander Robert Tuff to executive officer.

Assignment to the USS Pioneer[]

Admiral Christopher Truman was originally going to assign Lieutenant Albert Buerk to the USS Pioneer, but his talents were badly needed on Deep Space Five. Tuff had recommended Rick Soto or Jerri Manon, personnel from his own security team, but Admiral Truman and Captain Kelsoe eventually decided on someone new, and Valdez was selected.
