Gita Sanura Divakuruni was a Starfleet line officer of Bengali descent active in the 23rd century.

Divakuruni was born in 2247 in the Serpent Swarm asteroid belt of the Alpha Centauri system.

In 2274, she began studies at the Starfleet Academy Command Staff College. Among her classmates were Alexander Rosenzweig (with whom she would have a brief fling years later), Janna Talmadge and Shrevas sh'Zanasethri. (Star Trek: Avenger: "Belonging"; Star Trek: Shadowstar Station: "Pomp and Circumstantial Evidence")

The Saladin-class destroyer USS Iblis, commanded by Captain Divakuruni, was assigned to the sector that included the Beta Miranda system and Shadowstar Station in 2287. Iblis was destroyed during the events of Operation Blackjack. (Star Trek: Shadowstar Station: Operation Blackjack) For six years, a flight of perimeter action ships took Iblis ' place on patrol.

Years later, in 2293, the Soyuz-class tactical frigate USS Pandora, under Divakuruni's command, was assigned to supplement the perimeter action ships in Shadowstar's sector.

Pandora was mysteriously lost with all hands in Triangle space in 2302.

Background information[]

The character's given name is Sanskrit for "song". "Sanura" is a Swahili name meaning "kitten". Her surname is derived from the author Chitra Banerjee Divakuruni.
