Lieutenant Golin Dalar is the chief engineer of the Federation starship USS Gustav P. Remington. (Star Trek: Remington: "Inceptum")
History[]
Early life[]
Dalar was born in Mekot City on Cardassia Prime, the son of two parents who appeared loyal to the state, but were secretly dissidents who worked against the corrupt system of government. Dalar's father, Aamin, was a decorated gul who suffered a humiliating defeat, which he claimed was due to sabotage by someone within his crew, at the Battle of Tol Mara IV during the Federation-Cardassian War and lost favor with the government. Aamin's bitterness over the Central Command's reaction to his defeat led him to join the dissident movement. When the Central Command discovered Aamin's membership in the movement, he was secretly punished with financial and social sanctions, though due to his status as a war hero, this was kept secret by the government.
About ten years after his birth, the political pressure became too great, and Aamin, his wife Kela and Golin fled Cardassian territory and applied for asylum in the Federation, which was granted.
Though Dalar and his parents were loyal to the Federation, the outbreak of the Klingon-Cardassian War motivated Dalar to apply for entrance to Starfleet Academy. He was admitted shortly before the war ended.

USS Remington[]
When the Remington's crew was being assembled, Dalar was one of the top candidates recommended to Captain Boswell, who described Dalar as one of the finest young engineers in Starfleet. Dalar requested that he be able to bring a select few members of the engineering staff from the Grant to serve as the core of his staff on the Remington, a request that was granted.
