The Gorn are a reptilian humanoid species. The Gorn nation-state is known as the Gorn Hegemony.

History and culture

The Gorn society consists of 3 castes, the military caste, the worker caste and the caste of scientists. (Star Trek: Unity One)

The Gorn had contact with the Orions as early as 2154, when Orion privateer Harrad-Sar claimed to Jonathan Archer that they brewed "the finest Meridor in the five systems". (ENT: "Bound")

Official first contact with the Federation came in 2267, under hostile circumstances, when a Gorn ship attacked a Federation colony on Cestus III. (TOS: "Arena") By the late 24th century, however, the two powers had full, amicable political relations.

In the TOS novel: Dreadnought!, set ca. 2270, at least one Gorn had joined Starfleet. The Gorn had joined the Federation in 2285, per Orion Press continuity.

In 2297, J'rrreshar -- one of the first Gorn to attend Starfleet Academy Command School -- took the Kobayashi Maru exam. (Star Trek: Malverne: "Tales of the Kobayashi Maru: J'rrreshar's Story")

Alternate timelines

  • The initial wave of attacks during the Kelvan War in the mid-2280s resulted in the near-extermination of the Gorn species, in the Orion Press continuity. (Orion Press: In Harm's Way)
